2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Response

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer direction.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

Brinkman presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can expect additional details as production continues.
